Carmen

Character from Root Note Thesis Film

Final

Carmen is one of the three main characters in my SVA senior thesis film. She’s the keyboard player in her band, and the fun, bubbly personality of her group.

She is 20 years-old and has blonde hair tied in two braids. She wears gold jewelry in the form of a flower necklace and chain earrings, complementing the gold detailing on her boots. Her outfit is fun and casual, with earth-toned colors and neutral greens that hint to her and her friends’ connection with nature to be explored in the film.

Wireframe/Sculpt

Carmen is easily my favorite of the characters from my thesis film. I drew inspiration from my own appearance and personality when designing her, and even voice her in the film! I didn’t expect to have so much fun voice acting, but it was one of my favorite parts of the whole process!

The model was sculpted in Zbrush and retopologized in Maya. Unlike the other characters from the film, I did not make her clothing in Marvelous Designer. While I love experimenting with Marvelous, I wanted to show my ability to model clothing by hand as well! All texturing was done in Substance Painter.

These character turnarounds were lit in Maya, rendered with Arnold, composited in Nuke, and edited in After Effects.
