Character from Root Note Thesis Film

Final

Jun is one of the three main characters in my SVA senior thesis film. He’s the lead guitarist of his band, and the most outgoing of his friends.

He is 19 years-old and Asian-American, and has black hair with a signature blue streak. When he isn’t playing his electric guitar, he wears the guitar pick on a chain around his neck. His clothes reflect a baggy streetwear kind of style, and he has several earrings as well as an eyebrow piercing.

Wireframe/Sculpt

The model was sculpted in Zbrush and retopologized in Maya. The shoes and jewelry were modeled in Maya, and all other clothing was made in Marvelous Designer.

Jun was the first of my three thesis characters I made, and really set the tone for the style of both the other two main characters, as well as the film in its entirety.

Original Concept & Turnaround

When I designed this character initially, I wanted his outfit and hairstyle to be flashy and loud to reflect his energetic personality and confidence. However, I ended up changing a lot of aspects of his design to fit the simplicity of our film’s render style. We kept his signature blue guitar and guitar pick necklace, but ended up changing his outfit to something a bit more suitable for the summer heat. The blue motif can still be seen in his updated design through the electric blue streak in his hair.
